Welcome to my blog. I’m excited to enter the blogosphere and a little nervous too. It’s a crowded place and I am, by nature, an introvert. I love writing – even for academic journals with their slow decisions, revise & resubmits and revise & resubmits again. To me, writing is thinking and the academic writing process is thinking out loud. But I’ve decided it’s not loud enough, or at least I need to turn my megaphone in different directions. So here we are.
I’ve titled this inaugural post “Growing Old is Not for Sissies” and used Etta Clark’s lovely photo from her book of the same name on my About page (with permission – thank you Etta!) because her photos capture so well how I think about my work. Stuff happens with age, but many meet those challenges with strength and squeeze every drop out of life they can. And I believe there are many things we – as individuals, as a society, as a profession – can do to help others age with strength as well.
I anticipate writing about a wide range of topics here related to aging research, social work, academia, and whatever else catches my fancy. My hope is that you will share this website with anyone you think may be interested and post your comments.
